KCC Elections May 1st 2025
Your SGRA Candidate is
Dawn Johnston
“I have worked in the Health sector for many years dealing with women’s health and family health in community settings. I have also worked at the Department of Health at government level and have since provided consultancy work. I am a trustee of a National Charity relating to women’s health and have lived in Greenhithe since 2002. I am now cutting back to focus on local democracy and representation. You will get my full attention. The needs of all the areas in the division will hold the same priority as each other.
I was first elected to the Town Council representing Greenhithe for one term in 2007 and in my current term I am Deputy Mayor, Chair of the Planning, Major Developments and Environment Committee and Vic Chair of the Community Safety Committee.
I am part of the Lorry Watch team and chaired the latest public meeting about Galley Hill. I sit on the Whitecliffe Liaison Group as well as being a director of IPGM in Ingress Park.
Having worked in Government and for Government I know how systems work and how to scrutinise and challenge decisions. I will bring this experience to KCC.
There are issues like access to first preference schools, provision of GP’s, easy access to public transport and clamping down on antisocial behaviour that are common to Swanscombe, Greenhithe, Ebbsfleet and all the surrounding areas. Just like Peter Harman I will listen to concerns, lobby the appropriate authorities and seek solutions.
I am also aware that KCC provides a variety of services for vulnerable people that are under threat. I will speak up against poor budget decisions in the council chamber and lobby the KCC Cabinet and MP for good quality local services.”
More Information
The SGRA are very sad to report that Cllr Peter Harman passed away suddenly on Thursday 22 August 2024
Peter was a long-time resident of Greenhithe and after an impressive career in the London Fire Brigade Service he went on to serve his community for over 20 years in various roles as Town Councillor of S&G and Stone, Mayor of Swanscombe, Borough Councillor and also as a member of Kent County Council.
Peter cared deeply about his local community and was relentless in his efforts to address issues that were impacting on residents of S&G including involvement of local MPs to address ‘the boy racers in Crossways’ and most recently the closure of Galley Hill Rd. Peter was mentioned in Hansard in May 2024 where grateful thanks were given to him by the Minister of transport for his tireless efforts to address the lack of urgency to reopen Galley Hill Rd. He was a long serving member of SGRA and more recently the Chair, running regular monthly meetings.
Peter was also very involved in the local fire service life boats.
He was well known in Swanscombe and Greenhithe and has always made an important contribution to the lives of local residents, he will be greatly missed.
He leaves his wife Jo, two daughters Kate and Charlotte and two granddaughters Emily and Jessica.
